A Celebration of 50 Years – Our School Anniversary Ceremony

On Friday, September 26, 2025, the official ceremony marking the 50th anniversary of our school took place in the Aula – a moving and memorable moment that brought our school’s history, values, and community into the spotlight.
We were honored to welcome many guests to this special occasion, including former and current staff members, as well as distinguished guests:

Markus Potzel, German Ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein
Gian-Reto Agramunt, Mayor of Vernier
Clément Leclerc, French Consul General in Geneva
Mathis Kern, German Honorary Consul in Geneva

The event was shaped by heartfelt speeches, music, personal reflections, and a shared look toward the future. One of the highlights was the premiere of our bilingual school anthem “Unser WIR”, presented as a video for the first time. Another proud moment was the official awarding of the label “Excellent German International School”, recognizing the high quality of our educational work.
Marc Engelhardt, Chair of the Association for German School Education, closed his speech with a powerful reflection on the values that guide us – inspired by Maria Montessori, who would have turned 155 this year:

“Everyone talks about peace, but no one teaches it. In this world, we only teach competition, and competition is the beginning of every war. If we educate for cooperation and solidarity, then from that day on, we teach peace.”

He concluded: “Teaching is creating peace. If we believe in this together and work toward it together, hope can become reality. That’s what the table shows us – the one from which, 50 years ago, our school was born. Let us teach peace. We need it.”

This ceremony was more than a celebration – it was a moment to reflect on who we are, what we stand for, and what connects us: shared values, a clear vision, and a strong sense of community.

A big thank you to everyone who celebrated this milestone with us – and to the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Bern for their generous support and the festive closing cocktail party.
This celebration once again demonstrated what makes the DSG so special: a lively, committed and forward-looking community.
